It's all very funny, but ...
i just discovered this community, thanks to calence_ethan ... i had a great time last night reading all the posts and having a good laugh ... many of the posts are truly hilarious ... a community that takes itself so seriously that it can't step back and laugh at itself is not a community that i would want to be a part of ... i thank you icarus_after, rajiotaiso and everyone else with a marvelous sense of humor who has contributed to my evening's entertainment

but after my laughter subsided and i had a chance to think about it, i noticed i had some concern ... the concern stems from my training as a psychiatric nurse ... as ftms, many of us have found it difficult to impossible to be socialized as females ... often, middle school and high school is a total nightmare and we become the target of cruel jokes, insults and even violence ... some of us grow up isolated and without friends ... as a result, among ftms, we have more than our share of severe personality disorders, some so severe that being able to "take a joke" is not possible ... obviously, i'm not saying that we're all emotional cripples or that even many of us are ... but what if the following scenario were true for just one person:

he is very young ... he's grown up facing nothing but scorn and derision from the world at large because he just doesn't fit in ... he alternates between internalizing how he's been treated and hating himself and hating the world ... he eats a lot because that's the only comfort he has and sometimes thinks about suicide ... then one day, he discovers the ftm world and with a growing sense of recognition, things start to make sense ... gradually, he begins to imagine that he might really be ok and that maybe there's there's a place he fits in ... when he finds the ftm group on eljay, he's very excited and wants to reach out and make contact ... in his excitement, he makes an ill-considered post ... some time latter, he finds out about ftmoron and that the one community he thought would love and accept him is laughing at him and saying cruel things about him ... he feels humiliated and devastated

i'm sure none of us would want to add to the pain of some kid that's already had more than his share of alienation ... i'm not sure what should be done about it ... i don't think restricting membership and friends only solves it, because a clever guy can create a new account after his application to join has been denied

i don't want to rain on anybody's parade and i'm probably gonna be blasted for this post ... so be it; i couldn't stand by and not say anything
